Indirect questions

subject + verb

An auxiliary verb (did/does, etc.) is not used in the second part of the question.

Can you tell me if he stole the jewels?

Would you be able to recognize the thief if you saw her?

NOT: Do you know where is it?
Do you know where she does live?
Do you know where does she live?

You can use "if " or "whether" in "yes/no" questions.

Ex: Could you testify on whether/if the burglar was fat or not? Yes, I can.

Questions ending in prepositions

If a verb is followed by a preposition, the preposition comes after the question word.
Ex: What city are you living in?
Ex: What case are you working
on?
Ex: What did you go there
for?
